Social Media
What is Social Media?
Social Media is when people can share, interact, and have conversations online in social communities or networks. Not only does the website give you information, etc., but it also may allow you to vote on something, leave a comment, or rate a product. Regular media just comes straight to you, like a newspaper. However, with social media, you can comment back, and communicate back and forth. Often a webpage may have a button or buttons referring visitors to social media. An example of this is in the top, right-hand corner of this page. Some popular social media websites are Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google+, and Pinterest. In Twitter, users can send messages in the form of "tweets" to others, or post for everyone to see. Facebook is quite similar. Each person has there own page where they can post information about themselves, and comment on friend's posts. Pinterest is a site where anyone can create an account, then share neat ideas and projects. They can also pin interesting things into their own account for easy access. As you can see in these three examples, communication between people is the main idea of all of them. Social Media makes communication easy, fast, and inexpensive. It also is a wonderful way to send surveys, and get other's opinions on ideas or products.
Remember:
When using social media, it is important to remember the following tips of proper social media etiquette:
-Use proper language. If for business purposes, use professional language.
-Do not vent your frustrations on Facebook or Twitter, because things will mushroom and get out of hand.
-Do not post too much personal information such as trips you are taking, where you live, etc. Others may get hold of that information.
-Count to ten before you respond. Never post anything when you are tired or angry.
-Be careful what pictures you use. Anybody could use them.
-Focus on representation.
-Be respectful, and polite.
